GoDaddy's New .Me Domains Turning Into Circus
Seems GoDaddy is having some problems with their just launched .me domains. People were applying left and right for them and obviously GoDaddy seemed to have a "box office" hit with the new domain extension.
But as SEW moderator Discovery details here, everyone seems to get an initial you got your domain only to find out a little while later that the names have already been assigned to someone else. Jeremy Shoemaker had the same problems over at Shoemoney and posted the responses.
GoDaddy is going to make a lot of money with this new domain roll out, but now that people are being rejected after being told otherwise, the loss of goodwill may have a much bigger longterm negative effect for the company.
Hope GoDaddy registered younolongerlike.me and dontblame.me, as they may need to use them to offset the bad publicity.

I spent over $1200 and in the end only got 8 domains.... $320. Most of the really good ones were taken.

What a mess today with the .me launch. Congrats to anyone who was actually able to get a name...

My blogs stats report show people have been snatching a lot of .me domains. One big spender bought 44 .me domains in one transaction alone. Made 20 sales in 178 clicks so far... I'd say people have held out buying these till today.
I wonder if my cj commissions will hold out though. In any case, I'll probably make more since the blog gets top SERP's for .me domains.
Cheers!

Today was crazy. Godaddy also took a long time to switch from one page to the next. At the end I ended up getting a few good .Me's and saved $5 on registration by using PROMO CODE CHH2 at Check out.

It looks like, from the initial .me interest, that the domain name rush is far from over. These domains look to be a nice means of personal branding. Hopefully the general surfing public will catch on fairly quickly and the .me domain owners will be able to draw some traffic.

The following is a true story.
I sent in a list of over 100 domains to an account exec., only to get an email telling me:
"Yes I did get your list, and unfortunately, none of the domains on your list come up as available. If you have any more domains that you would like for me to check, please feel free to send them over."
My response:
"How about;
yougottabefuckingkidding.me?
This is a major letdown of your services..... some of those were very unique, and that I didn't get any of them is very suspicious.
Thanks for your time anyway."
Only to get this reply back:
"After running the search again, I found that these (23) domains from your list are available...."
and yougottabefuckingkidding.me was on the list! - so I bought it!! I also bought yougottabekidding.me too.
Both are for sale for $1000. :) No joke. LOL!

I like some of those... organise.me is a definite winner... but will the .me be like the .mobi domains - waiting for the mobile search engine that puts them near the top? If the entire domain gets up when you search for the term then obviously some of these could be big... let's see where they start to rank

I too am extremely disappointed. I had purchased ani.me, and had plans for it... and just like that, my dreams were shattered. Thanks, Go Daddy.

I was gonna have a party being able to snag why.me and healthy.me... Only to see my email later that day that it was already taken, but they'll try their best to get it back. Like hell they will. (Out of my disappointment, I went to my other domain registrar and registered 2 less desirable .me domain.)

I was able to register hitting.me, careful.me and guv.me(wtf? lol).. I had old.me which was a big winner, I receieved confirmation and already had plans for it.. But then the dream shattering email. They still owe me like $400 in refunds, when will i get them?

I got -- and then lost -- six .me domains, pretty much just like everyone else.
I'm not waiting for the promised refunds. Since GoDaddy made things a mess for me, I'm contesting each and every charge with my credit card company. Let GoDaddy deal with the mess from them!
I have also started the process of transferring all my domain registrations to a more reputable company.

I received this letter after my 6 .me domains were put into question...
Dear Richard Boyd,
Your correspondence has been directed to the Office of the President.
We understand you have concerns regarding the .ME registration process. We knew the .ME Open Registration response would be tremendous, but it went beyond even what we had expected. As a result, we experienced some system issues in our communication with the registry.
As soon as we became aware of the issue we began taking steps to correct it. It is now resolved. For our customers, if we did not successfully register the domain name requested they will receive a full refund.
Thank you for your understanding. If you have any further questions, please feel free to bring these to our attention.
Regards,
Luke Hintze

Discovery added to the info over at the forum.
He mentioned this:
I received a call from GoDaddy yesterday afternoon.
A cordial and polite fellow apologized for the technical difficulties they encountered which resulted in a poor experience for me and other customers. (Many other customers).
I don't know how widespread this call campaign was, however it is was necessary to make personal calls and not simply email blast an apology.
There are still some very real issues to be addressed here.
The post has a lot more details and worth checking out.

I registered initially for 4 domains, I failed to get 2 out of 4 - same issue you guys had. Basically someone else payed before me, must have been a split second. Although, personally, when at checkout with GoDaddy it was VERY slow loading the page... I was worried I would lose them all, alas I managed to get 2 out of the 4. Afterwards when I found out the 2 I missed weren't mine (by checking WHOIS) I quickly grabbed another 2 potentially good .me names.
I appreciate that everyone is stressed but in reality, others WERE quicker than you to get the domains. It's just that at the time of your registration it was available, but then that other person on the other side of the world was registering it the same time and voila - you missed out by seconds.
GoDaddy should implement a check just before the actual purchase stage, this way it could redirect saying only two were successfully registered, or to offer you the chance to quickly pick some new ones so you can still get your group discount.
I registered and got 20% off my purchases, saving about $30 for 4 .me domains. I believe .me is a wonderful extension and in time more and more will catch on to the "ego" factor and ultimately put .me up there within (or near) the ranks of .net.

POINT IS: GoDaddy wasn't prepared and a lot of people missed out on good domains; domains they thought they owned. Domains that were taken were still showing as "available" 4 hours later on GoDaddy. Not to mention the refund processing time. It was ridiculous. Anyways, there is a class action lawsuit forming for all those who successfully registered a domain and then a few hours later got an email saying they didn't get the domain. Email godaddylawsuit@gmail.com with your details and I think they are also looking for legal aid.
