Google PR update PR=6 decreased to 5

Hi,
I suppose google updated the PRs as well.
My site web's homepage which has PR=6 go down to PR=5
We have never been buying links , not at all.

Just recently I made "noindex, no follow" many pages
after reading an article about how to better use google sources better. I decided not to occupy google and googlebot with our dublicate content pages.

For examle: If we have a page for a product we repeat the same page for many departs of France.SO if we have have 150 products we have 2250 different urls more or less with the same content all of them just for each departing city.

So I did noindex, nofollow for all of them. May be it is an error?

In SERPs for keywords there seems no change we are still ranking as before.4000 clicks coming from organic search.

Do you have any ideas about my PR changes and do you advise at least to redo not "index, follow" but "noindex, follow" for products from different citys pages which are dublicate content pages?

Thanks ina advance

Sounds like you may have "non-malicious duplicate content" and could be blocking lots of your content pages.

see:

"Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Mostly, this is not deceptive in origin. Examples of non-malicious duplicate content could include:"

second bullet
"* Store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs"

Thank you for your answer but I do not have trouble in SERPs.
It is just my PR is decreased.
In the document it does not talk about PR decreasing?

Sorry I was not clear, by using nofollow to block Google from 2250 pages that it seems are not "malicious duplicate content", you could be blocking the flow of PageRank to your own pages.

I wouldn't be too concerned with PR on pages that'll be filtered out. With the current PR5, it's highly unlikely that there's enough link power in the site to support as high a number as 2,250 pages - particularly if there aren't deep links channeling decent PR to interior sections and pages. Chances are slim to nil that most of those will be able to make it into "primary" indexing status, so selective distribution will be a better choice than dissipating the PR by letting iti flow to where it won't do any good.

Yes, I agree that you're better off having the PR flow through the important pages on the site rather than wasting on pages that'll be filtered out anyway.

It looks like there's just been an "across the board" lowering of PR anyway, which happens every so often and is not unusual. It's nothing to worry about if it's only a minor drop, as you've indicated.

Re: Google PR update PR=6 decreased to 5

Marcia and Beau thank you very much for your answers.
It is very kind of you.
Normally we are not giving any links to any other site webs.
However lately with our emarketing director's wish we give 6 outbound links and some additional inbound links for our deeper pages. The worst is we are using a template in which we use these links(outbound and inbound links) in every page of our site web.
I try to convince him at least putting outbound links in a single page however I could not make him beleive what I say.
I think to myself whether that might also cause PR drop.
On our homepage we had 130 links total (inbound+outbound)
In some inner pages this number goes to over 200.
I made many noindex, nofollows just for decreasing this excessive linking as well as preventing dublicate content indexing

Again thank you very much for your help

Right, you should use caution in blocking the flow of PageRank. Be sure PageRank can flow in your primary content pages.

Re: Google PR update PR=6 decreased to 5

Just because your homepage lost Page Rank does not mean that you did anything wrong nor does it mean that your rankings have been affected by the change. Page Rank values that are seen from 1 to 10 on the toolbar represent large intervals of actual internal Google Page Rank. So if you see a toolbar Page Rank of 1, it might really mean between 1 to 5000 internal points. PR2 might be 5001 to 20000. The actual numbers are known only to Google. What is known is that each degree of Page Rank from 1 to 10 represents a bigger interval than the one before it. So in other words, the difference between PR1 and PR2 is smaller than the difference between PR2 and PR3. Each time you move up, the interval gets bigger thereby making it harder to attain the next level. Also, the intervals change everytime there is an update based on the total number of pages in the index. So even if you internal points did not change (and therefore your rankings didn't move much), where you fall in the 1 to 10 scale can change depending on the new intervals of the latest Page Rank update. If you keep adding content and high quality links, you will get both Page Rank and search engine listings without having to care whether you are a PR5 or a PR6. Unless you are selling links and then obviously it makes a bigger difference in terms of what you can get. But since Google says not to sell links, I am sure no one in here does that...LOL.

Also bro, keep in mind that more pages = more Page Rank. So if you blocked some of your Pages that were previously indexed, even though you did the right thing in eliminating duplicate content, you still decreased your Page Rank. But if it didn't effect your listings than quit worrying about it cause last time I checked, search listings generated traffic which equals sales, not Page Rank.

I would no follow any outbound links that are not on the home page.... repeated links look like sold links which can have you dropped....

Are You all still sure that PR is thing worth such a big attention? There were times when had several pr5 (mayebe even 6, not sure) sites which have no good positions and no revenue, and also site with pr0 now (not new one, years old) earning ~$1000 from google ORGANIC search traffic?

Re: Google PR update PR=6 decreased to 5

It is the actually position in the SERPs that is important.... but Google dropping sites suggests that PR does impact those results at some level
