Google Friend Connect - More Friends for AdWords?

Google Friend Connect is an interesting social networking initiative. In fact, you could call it a "meta" social networking system. Is this (finally) a way to monetize social networking? Implications for AdWords Advertisers?

Not sure how to monetize it just yet, but I'm hoping to include it in my next side project just to see how it goes. Looks like it'd be a nice way to regulate a comment system and get registered users without managing a site-specific user database. I'm looking forward to a public release to try it out.

Looks great for the "personal website" a little clunky for the professional business site.

So basically its a social network aggregator?

Does this thwart new site owners from even trying to generate and own their own users? Stiffle the possibility of the next facebook, no matter how unlikely that could be?

Say I dont belong to any SN, who do I sign up with?
Who gets to own that sign up? Does Annie get a cut of the profits for each new user?

Upload images - Where are those images stored?
All the data generated by these gadgets.. Where is it all stored, who owns it? If my site goes wild with fantastic reviews, meaningful ratings on recipes and so on.. who owns it, does the gadget maker have a right to that content? Google?

Sorry I'm so green here.

I look forward to trying it out as well, just hope its here before the U.S. Open.

BTW: Google gives some sample sites below but they don't seem to work with the Safari browser. Anyone else having a problem with Safari?

Safari on a Mac? That is odd, working fine for me OSX 10.5.2. They used Safari on Macs last night at CampFire One for the launch.

Strange. I'm running OSX 10.4.10 and it's not working. Um... guess I need to upgrade the OS. I'll try from work tomorrow... Windows there of course.

Tried it on 10.4.11 as well and it works there too. Either way, I'm impressed with your choice of hardware!

I've been using Macs since the summer of '84, which not only shows my dedication, but also shows my age. LOL!

I've got you beat abbottsys - I started using a Commodore PET in 1978. I wrote a really simple game in BASIC and won first prize at my middle school science fair. I am truly old.

Beat this. In 1970 I used instant messaging on the internet. The internet was called "Arpanet". There were approx 15 servers on the entire net, and the instant messaging terminal I used was a "Teletype" because CRTs were not yet available. Totally true story.
